Unit 7: PowerPoint and EXAM Week

DAY 1: Wednesday, May 9

Work Day=time to work on:

  • MLA Reports

  • Database tables

  • Stock II

  • Organize Files in Your H Drive

If you are finished, try Shelfari, play Free Rice, Kudos, MS Windows Games, work on other homework, or read.

DAY 2: Thursday, May 10

Table Review with Summer BINGO

  1. Create a table with 5 columns and 6 rows

  2. Set cell size to 1″

  3. Merge top row and type your name, format attractively, add clipart

  4. Type “Free” in the center of the table

  5. Type a word/description that reminds you of summer in every empty cell of your table

  6. Highlight cells as your choice is called

  7. Yell “BINGO” when you have a bingo!

DAY 3: Friday, May 11

DAY 4: Monday, May 14

Tech Talk – IT Careers

Job Sites: hotjobs, careerbuilder, monster.

Assigns:

  1. Read pages 304-310. Answer questions 1-4 with Word/print or write by hand, then hand in.

  2. BONUS:
    Search for an IT position
    you might like by using one of the sites abovejob does not have to be in Indiana. Search in the category of technology and use one of these positions as a keyword:

  • ecommerce,

  • web design,

  • information technology,

  • software,

  • hardware,

  • database,

  • education,

  • customer service,

  • help desk,

  • administrative support.

  • Print the page of the job you decide to report on.

  • You will report on the job you find by writing a a few paragraphs in Word. BE SURE THE PARAGRAPH IS IN YOUR OWN WORDS and contains all items in #1, #2, #3 below! Information does NOT HAVE TO BE FORMATTED AS AN MLA Report.

  1. The first paragraph should list the exact title of the job you choose, a few typical duties, one necessary skill,  education and/or experience required, and beginning or average salary. If there are things you can’t find, that is OK.

  2. In the second paragraph, tell me why you think this could be a good technology job for you. List the skills needed that you already possess and typical duties you might enjoy.

  3. Be sure to include your name in your document so I can give you credit!

  4. Put your name on the career print-out you found on the Internet, staple it to the paragraphs and hand in.

If you have extra time, play kudos, read, or work on other homework.

DAY 5: Tuesday, May 15

SNOOPY PROJECT BEGINS

Life After Death by PowerPoint

Project 1-Get to Know Microsoft PowerPoint
Window, Layouts, Views, Designs, Slide Master
Project 2-Enhance a Presentation

Bulleted Lists, Tables, Graphs, Transitions/Animation, Sound and Graphics
Project 3-Deliver a Presentation
Speaker’s Notes, Print Handouts, Publish

DEMO:

  1. PowerPoint Intro Presentation and describe window/terms/views

  2. Remind of web-based presentation software (google docs, photo site slideshows, prezi, etc.)

  3. Demo Outline View and printing

Assign:
Snoopy I

  1. Use the Outline tab to type in Snoopy Information

  2. Proofread work carefully–check spelling and READ!

    IF YOU HAVE A SPELLING MISTAKE, YOU WILL RECEIVE HALF CREDIT FOR THIS ASSIGNMENT!

  3. Save the presentation as Snoopy Ixx

  4. Print as an outline and Hand In

DAY 6: Wednesday, May 16

Snoopy II

  • Return Snoopy I and remind students to make corrections

  • Show Really Bad PowerPoint

  • Demo Snoopy II PowerPoint Assignment

Edit the PowerPoint you created in Snoopy I by Adding Slides, Changing Slide Layouts, Designs/Backgrounds, Transitions, Animations/Custom Animations, using the Slide Master and Quick Styles.

Assign: Snoopy II–Presentation Basics:

  1. Open Snoopy I and Save as SnoopyII.

  2. Fix any mistakes marked on your first Snoopy!

  3. Insert a slide after the skills slide and copy half the skills to the new slide. Title the new slide Skills Continued.

  4. Add a new slide after slide 3 that shows Snoopy’s awards, then add this information:

    Dog of the Year 1990, Grand Champion of the North American Dog Show 1977 and Mr. Congeniality 1985.

  5. Choose an appropriate design for the background of all slides and change the background color of one slide ONLY so that it stands out more than the others.

  6. Find two words that should be emphasized and make them italic and bold.

  7. Add appropriate clipart to EACH SLIDE. DO NOT USE THE INTERNET– save time by searching Microsoft’s clipboard ONLY.

  8. Insert a slide number on each slide.

  9. Add transitions to each slide and animate at least one slide.

  10. USE SLIDE MASTER VIEW to change all title fonts to centered TNR on all slides but the title slide, add a small clipart or shape to each slide, and change all bullets to puppy toes (club symbol from cards using the symbol font)

  11. Proofread and edit as necessary using Cover Sheet

  12. Save again as SnoopyII

  13. See teacher for suggestions if you think you’re done but still have time in class

  14. Hand in cover sheet/directions when you finish. DO NOT PRINT!!! I will grade this version from your H drive.

  15. Prepare for Snoopy III by searching online for pictures, backgrounds, music, video related to Snoopy. Save all items in a new folder called Snoopy. Place the folder in Unit 7.

After Snoopy II, you have a finished presentation that would be fine to use or hand in as an assignment. Tomorrow, I’m giving you some time to make the presentation better.

DAYS 7 and 8: Thursday, May 17 and Friday, May 18

Snoopy III will show you what you can do IF YOU HAVE TIME…these specialty items should be done LAST when you’re working on a presentation!

Demo My Snoopy III and the following:
Create a folder called Snoopy in your unit 7 folder,  save pictures, backgrounds, video, sound; insert items, then customize as before.

Remind/Demo bullet/numbering rule, 7×7 rule, spell/check, practice.
Remind/Demo use for different views: Slide Master, Slide Sorter, Slideshow, Outline, Handouts, Notes
Be sure to include transitions AND animation and FORMAT ALL PICTURES!

Assign: Snoopy III–Get Creative:

  1. Create a Snoopy folder on your H drive to hold items you save from the Internet

  2. Spend 15-20 minutes searching the Internet for appropriate Snoopy-related pictures, backgrounds, animations, sounds.

  3. Open SnoopyIIxx

  4. Save as SnoopyIIIxx

  5. Replace ALL YOUR EXISTING CLIPART with real Snoopy graphics

  6. Include at least one animated graphic

  7. Use a Snoopy background on at least one slide

  8. Add custom animation to at least one slide

  9. Add sound to your presentation that plays continuously or add a sound to an animated item

  10. View in Slide Sorter View to check balance and consistency

  11. Preview Slide Show to check animation and transitions

  12. Check your Cover Sheet and proofread and edit as necessary

  13. Save again as SnoopyIIIxx

  14. DO NOT PRINT!

  15. Hand in Cover Sheet so I know your file is ready to be viewed/graded.
