Comp Apps Homework

NEW TECH MLA REPORTS

DUE DATES: Sept 18, Oct 2, Nov 19

You will compose and type three MLA reports during this semester related to new technology. Exact due dates will be given at least three weeks prior to the actual due date. Please print this sheet as a reference if you do not have Internet access at home.

Half credit will be given for reports turned in the day after the due date.
No points will be given for reports turned in after the one day 1/2 credit grace.

  • MLA New Tech Report #1 is worth 50 points and will be due near midterm of the first 9 weeks. (Sept 18)
  • MLA New Tech Report #2 is worth 100 points and will be due near the end of the first 9 weeks. (Oct 2)
  • MLA New Tech Report #3 is worth 100 points and will be due near the midterm of the second 9 weeks. (Nov 19)

Article Directions:

  1. Search for an article you like. You could do a search from my web page,  search the link(s) from your own aggregator, or use a newspaper or magazine print article.
  2. When you find an article you like, print a copy to submit with your finished report.
  3. Take notes by highlighting the article itself and writing notes on the back of the copy itself, or pull the article into OneNote and read, highlight, type notes, and print from there.
  4. When I grade, I want to be able to compare your summary to the actual article so I can be sure you used your own words.

Content Directions:

  • The first paragraph should include a sentence listing the general source (Yahoo, CNET, USA TODAY, etc.), the date, and a sentence or two explaining why you chose this particular article or topic.
  • The second paragraph should give details about 3 major points in the article. If the major points are explained extensively, you will want to describe those points in three separate paragraphs. If the explanation is brief, you may be able to describe them all in one paragraph. Be sure to use your own words.
  • The last paragraph should give your opinion of the article contents, and the reasons for your opinion. If other opinions are given in the article about the procedure or product, you could also include those opinions.

Format Directions:

  1. MLA Report formatting should be used.
  2. The font should be 11 or 12 in a readable style (Callibri, Arial or Times New Roman).
  3. Margins should be 1”, the whole report should be double-spaced, and the first page should have a heading at the left margin that includes your name, my name, the class, and the date in military style, for example: 07 June 2008
  4. The title should be centered with initial caps only, not bold, underlined or in a larger font than the rest of the report.

Submit on Time!

  • Use extra class time, SRT, or complete from home
  • Review the rubric below before you hand in the report
  • Hand in your completed report, your notes, and a copy of the original article

  9. If you use Yahoo, organize the personal assistant to reflect things you are interested in.If you use Google, check out the social gadget link at the top left of your page. Add “Who Has the Biggest Brain or Scrabble to your FUN PAGE, and see if you can compete with someone in this class.

  10. ORGANIZE YOUR MODULES BY TYPE AND REARRANGE MODULES SO THEY FORM EVEN COLUMNS ON THE PAGE.

  11. REMOVE MODULES YOU NEVER USE AND MINIMIZE MODULES YOU RARELY USE.

  1. BE PREPARED TO SHARE A LINK WITH THE WHOLE CLASS– ONE YOU’VE FOUND THAT IS ESPECIALLY USEFUL OR FUN.
