Create an Email Account on Yahoo (or Google–directions are similar)
Directions for Yahoo:
(Google mail is also a good choice and directions are similar, but you need an email account from another source before you can sign up for a Google account.)
- Click on Free Mail: sign up
- Answer the questions, select an ID, password (Make them easy to remember!), security question, and alternate email (OK to leave blank if you don’t have one).
- You may have to make changes if your ID is already taken, etc.
- Once you have all information, you will see a “Congratulations” page with all your data–PRINT THIS PAGE and put it somewhere safe.
- DO NOT update the Yahoo Toolbar now!
- Close Yahoo and reopen.
- Click on MyYahoo, sign in, and begin creating your aggregator.
- This page is best viewed/updated with the Firefox browser.
Create an Aggregator
If you have an email, you can create a place to collect and review information by creating your own Yahoo, Google, or Netvibes page. Be sure you’ve done the following to personalize:
- Change the color/theme and decide on layout
- Add a calendar and put your birthday on the calendar
- Add a word of the day
- Add national or international news (at least one)
- Add a technology news link
- Add hobby-related news
- Add something fun (but not rude or crude)
- Add a Bookmark for our school corporation (don’t forget net access) and a bookmark for this class blog
- Add a page called “Fun” and move your hobby and something fun to that page
- Add another page called “References” and then add at least 2 modules you could use (dictionary, thesaurus; calculator, etc.)
Create a Social Bookmark using del.cio.us
- Search google or yahoo for delicious site
- Create an account–make sure you write down your login and password!
- Check your email to gain access to your delicious account
- Add buttons to search link bar
- Go to the NPCSC site and post it to your delicious account. Create the tags school and files for the post, and add any notes you’d like for yourself. Go to my blog and post it to your account. Create tags using class name, school, etc.
- Share one of your sites with someone else in the class .
- Find someone outside of this class who also shares one of your tags.
- Add someone to your network.
Use Google Docs/Spreadsheets
- Create a Google account if necessary
- Create a short paragraph in Google Docs that describes something you like about technology.
- Save the presentation with the name techlikes.
- Share your document with someone else in the class (as a collaborator), then add a sentence in their document that shows that you agree or disagree with what they’ve described.
Create a Blog

- Create a blog account on WordPress or Blogger.
- Choose a Template and layout that is best for your content.
- Add Information: heading, blogroll, categories, post(s), page(s).
- Change/Adjust (add widgets, etc.) or change Template completely–as necessary for good layout.
- Go to a classmate’s blog and make a positive comment about the design or content.
Add an RSS Feed to your Aggregator to subscribe to new technology
Add a Podcast to to your Aggregator or to iTunes
Other interactive sites: pandora, disney interactive site, wordle, yearbook yourself
Create Your Own Podcast with Audacity
Use audacity to record your podcast and export as an MP3
(download from sourceforge.net if necessary–don’t forget the lame file)
Use podbean or clickcaster as a host and upload and publish your MP3
Subscribe using feed address through iTunes or podbean
